N***a I Know James

Hey y'all.....what's the deal? How's everything? You good? How's your holidays shapin' up? Dope! That's great to hear!

This is tREBLEFREE – 1/13 of the crew known in the Earth realm as OMNiVerse.

I asked Lunch to let me write this update to y'all because I had something special to share with all of you. I'm a wordy dude (aka I talk a LOT), so let me get the story out and it'll all make sense in the end.

Picture it.....Detroit....2000...nah I'm playin'.....

Around 2005 while I was gathering tracks and finishing work on my debut LP, "The Return Of The Dirty Cymbals", I came up with this beat that chopped up The JB's version of "Watermelon Man". At 110 BPMs, It was one of the fastest beats I had made.

I wanted DVS to attempt a flow at it, because at the time, he had just knocked me on my ass with what he did to the beat that became "Limelight" (also from "The Return Of The Dirty Cymbals").

After DVS heard it, he said to me, "Yeah, I can definitely do somethin' with that. I got an idea right now." As we continued discussing it, he mentioned, "I'm ready to do the 'Nigga I Know James EP'." Knowing DVS, this was his way of saying that he liked that beat enough to hear 35 more like it.

I laughed it off and kept the conversation moving, but that title just kept circling in my head.

So, after much deliberation in my own mind, I thought this would be a dope introduction of DVS and myself to the world at large. Both of our individual debut albums as artists are slated to come out in 2008, so I thought that this could serve as a taster to who we are and what we can do. I brought the idea back up to DVS and he wholeheartedly agreed to do it – and that brings us to the present.

All beats, interludes and musical tomfoolery were produced and arranged by me, tREBLEFREE (with various shades of funk from James Brown), and ferocious flows by the one and only DVS.

You have two options to check it out:

1.Podcast (clicking this link will subscribe you to OMNiVersal Recordings Podcast and instantly start the download of this EP)

2. Download of a zip file that contains the mp3s tagged for you to enjoy on your own free time away from the computer. There's two places to download it from:

Megaupload

Also, from time to time, certain songs from the EP will be over there to your right in the OMNiVersal Groovebox.

Please feel free to leave us comments, criticism, love, hate, jealousy, degradation and appreciation on our Message Boards.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to listen, and be on the lookout for my debut, "The Return Of The Dirty Cymbals", and DVS' debut, "DVS For Alderman", both coming somewhere near you in 2008.

Musically Yours,

T.R.O.Y

In the light of receiving word that I would have a new release to prepare for a podcast belonging to fellow brother and producer Earl Flynn he would also receive word just moments after getting off the phone with me that his uncle Louis Stafford had passed away from an heart attack. We at Omniversal Recordings send a warm embrace the family of Earl Flynn in this time of grieving. What follows is the poem Earl dedicated to his uncle. R.I.P

I need
to make a long distance call but
the operator snarled at me
when I didn't know the
country, state, or city area code
and my friends-and-family cell phone
mocked me by writing
"out of calling area" on its screen.

I need
to send an important letter but
the post office clerk screamed "next"
when I didn't have
an address or zip code
and my new laptop
locked me out, sending a haughty
"you need an e-mail address" message.

I need
to hitch a ride on
Harry Potter's magical broom,
click my ruby slippers
three or even six times,
wiggle my nose
like Samantha the television witch,
tumble with Alice
through the hole into Wonderland,
creep beyond the wardrobe
into the lion's Narnia,
turn the key
that opens the secret garden

I need
to find a way
to reach my uncle.
I need
one more hug
or at least his assurance
that he's okay in death.
I need
to reach my uncle
so I can finally
rest in peace.

I LOVE YOU LOUIS STAFFORD!
